For last year Christmas, the Boyfriend suggests doing a staycation. We seldom do staycations, hence Christmas actually gave us a good excuse to have one. Since I won’t be travelling overseas, staycation is probably the next best thing that we can do while in Singapore.
So after some online research and discusssion, we managed to narrow down our hotel choices to either Hotel Rendezvous or Hotel Jen Tanglin. We did also shortlist Studio M, as we’ve been there once and really like the loft unit. But after considering the location and pricing of the room, we utimatey decided on Hotel Jen Tanglin.
The previous time I was there was nearly three years ago for my sister’s wedding and back then it was still named as Traders Hotel.
Happened to read some bloggers’ reviews recently and thought the hotel actually looks quite good after their refurbishment.. And since there was an introductory promo, we thought we might as well give it a try. (Paid SGD206 after tax and service charge)
Lobby was well furnished and look really pretty with all the decor and warm lightings.
The hotel have a total of 18-storey. We requested for high floor and got assigned a room at level 13..
We booked the Superior Room and even though the room wasn’t that big (26sqm), it appears to be comfortable and cozy. The layout of the room actually reminds me a lot of our room at Alila Solo.
Room came fully equipped with air-conditioning, a flat screen tv, mini fridge, kettle, alarm clock, electronic safe, writing desk and bay window sofa with cushions.
There were also bathrobes and bedroom slippers provided in the wardrobe which we totally overlooked. We were still complaining to each other why wasn’t there bathrobe in the bathroom.. Only to discover on the next day that the bathrobes are kept nicely folded in the wardrobe.
Bathroom came with the standard bathroom amenities like hair dryer, shampoo, shower gel, body lotion, toothpaste and etc. I was surprise to find out that they even provide loofah!
Overall I was rather pleased with the room with the only complaint being the choice of tv channels. I think they can definitely do better by providing more channels. We were so bored with what’s available on the tv.
Behind the scene..
Dressed up and head outside for dinner @ Outback Steakhouse, Millenia Walk.
Outback Steakhouse never disappoints. It was our second visit and we really enjoy the food. Glad that we were there before the dinner crowd start to stream in. Didn’t do any reservation and we managed to get a table within 10 – 15 minutes.
Took me a lot of self-control not to finish up the bread.
I’ll be very angry with myself if I finished up the bread and not the steak that we paid SGD40 for.
Hers: New York Strip (with baked sweet potato and Aussie fries), SGD38.90
His: Ribeye (with corn and sweet potato fries), SGD39.90
We requested for both steaks to be medium-well. After having tried both, we agree that the New York Strip was slightly better.
Wings and fried calamari, SGD16.90
You can choose the level of spiciness for the chicken and taking into the account that the Boyfriend don’t take spicy well, we requested for non-spicy. Chicken was well marinated / flavourful.
And lastly, grilled prawns. Five small prawns for SGD9.90.
Our total bill for the above dishes plus two soft drinks came up to SGD136. Fairly expensive.. But for the quality of the food, it was money well-spent.
After dinner, we decided to take a walk around Suntec City before heading back to Orchard. Spotted some nutcrackers at the shopping mall atrium.
Back to Orchard Road..
We took a walk down from Orchard Cineleisure, all the way back to Tanglin Mall.
Spot my mini lighted up Santa’s hat. Paid SGD7 for it! But well, at least the money goes to charity..
Back at our hotel, we spotted this Christmas stocking right outside our door:
In there was a packet of cookies, prepared and given by the hotel. It’s simple things like this that will leave an impression in my mind.
I once heard someone saying: “People will tend to forget what you say, what you did.. But they will never forget how you make them feel.”
Do you agree?
A little present from the Boyfriend..
And lastly, we also bought a mini Christmas log cake!
25th December 2015 – Christmas Day!
Woke up right in time for breakfast!
Breakfast was served at J65 restaurant right beside the hotel lobby. It was full of people when we arrived and we have to queue for a good 15 minutes before we were assigned a table. Fortunately it was just the two of us. Those with a family of 6 / 8 appear to have to wait slightly longer for a table that is big enough to sit all of them.
Not that many pictures of the food as I wanted to dive right in to enjoy my breakfast on Christmas Day.
I think among everything I tried, my favourite dish was the laksa. So much so that I even went back for a second bowl. The herbal black chicken soup was also very good!
Later on, we started to hear Christmas carol and followed after that was the appearance of Snata.
This is the look on his face while waiting for Santa..
VS how happy he looks when taking a picture with Santa.
I honestly thinks that he is still a small boy at heart.
Went up to the room to pack up and get ready to check out of the hotel.
Check out time was at 12 noon but we managed to ask for half an hour of extension.
The view outside our window. Sadly, we didn’t have the chance to try out the swimming pool.
Never mind.. There is always next time! Next time we shall book two nights instead so that we can make use of all the facilities in the hotel!
